Answer - "I agree that our entire taxation system is unfairly skewed so that the poorer people in our society pay a far higher proportion of their income as tax than the wealthiest few. We must change this balance by firstly enforcing the rules we already have. As much as £12bn per year in tax is avoided by wealthy individuals and corporations. We must close the loopholes which allow this to happen, and ensure that the wealthy pay what they should, not just wage-earners who cannot afford an accountant".
In a generic sense, do you believe that the rich should pay more tax and the poor should pay less tax?
Answer - "I believe that in a progressive society, we should all contribute according to our ability. The tax system should be designed to facilitate that".
Do you pledge to campaign for income tax reform at the next parliament?*
*not necessarily as specified with the above policy
Answer - "If I am successful, I will fight for working people against the vested interests of the mainstream political parties and their paymasters".

"Thank you for your email -- we definitely need a fairer tax system. It can seem like a big, abstract system but it makes an enormous difference to people's lives. I think your ideas are very much along the right lines and I would broadly support all three.
Please see my manifesto at http://www.joehallforluton.com/ for more ideas about fairer taxes and how to rebalance our society -- we need to get serious with the banks too, and we need to support the right kind of long-term investment in our society like education, activities for young people and mental health care rather than building more prisons for example. We know already what many of the solutions are for our society -- now we need the courage to make them our priority".

"Dear FTC
Broadly, I am in favour of progressive taxation and one of my priorities is a radical recasting of the tax system in it's entirety.
My own ideas are in my tax page: http://www.stevenford.co.uk/tax.html"

"I will seek income tax reform as MP for Salford and Eccles. I don't know if that's quite the answer you were looking for but I hope it gives you a good quick grasp of fundamentally where I stand on income tax. Nobody earning £14,000 per annum or less should pay any tax at all. The aim (in the long run) should always be to lower public spending to fit tax yields rather than raising tax rates to fund high and excessive public spending. Fair taxation is the lowest necessary level of taxation for the State to function properly. Taxation should not exploit the poor nor penalise the wealthy; I do not believe in using the tax system to clobber the middle class or to 'redistribute wealth' - which is actually to 'rob' the hard-earned wealth of the middle classes". |

"I agree in principle with the policy. I can't agree to campaign for or pledge it, because my manifesto requires me to do as the people in my area ask me to do. I'd be happy to promote the campaign to them and see if they were interested in it though".
